Yoga for beginners? Im 13 and need help! Ten points?

I know i am only 13 but i want to start yoga, because being a teen is stressful for me. Can you either give a good site for yoga at homewith exercise tips! Or can you type the name of the yoga move and the description on how you do it! Also am i supposed to go in a quiet space? Outside? Indoors? In noisy place but block out the noise? Are other people supposed to be in there not doing yoga? I need help! Soon! Best answer i promise 10 points and i will also tell everyone how good you are!

  1. it reaaly doesnt matter where or who you do yoga with.

its very hard to explain in words so id suggest getting denise austins yoga and pilates dvd.

  2. You can buy a yoga matt and yoga ball and all the accsessories for cheap at Wal-Mart or Target. If you want to do yoga at home, I suggest buying those ( They also sell packages, which includes all of that ). Also, purchase a yoga video, which they also sell at Target and Wal-Mart, or you can buy them at Borders or Barnes & Noble.

If you prefer to do Out of home yoga, they have classes for advanced, intermedeate, and beginer at the YMCA. Just check it out at your local branch (:

    Hope this helps!

  3. Buy yoga videos/dvds. I recommend the AM Yoga/PM Yoga set by GAIAM. The one taught by Rodney Yee is really good.

Try to practice in a quiet room by yourself. Tell your parents or whoever is there to please leave you alone because you don't want to be distracted at all, to get into a good meditative state.

  4. Try to contact your local "Y" they have things for your age group, or look up local gyms that will teach yoga.

There are videos out there from MTV to teach Yoga, but you need a beginner tape so that you don't hurt yourself.

Before you do yoga you need to mediate to shut out the noises that are bothering you, and have your "time out" moment.

If you have room in your bedroom you can do it there, if not try to find a room in the house that you won't be bothered. You should do yoga alone, unless that person with you is willing to do it with you.

What I do so far is just breathing exercise, I sit on the floor or lay on the bed, and just relax, and often when I do that I am taking a little nap.

    Hope this will help.

  5. Yoga is GREAT for stress (and a great workout).

my favorite beginer DVD is "Bryan Kest - Power Yoga, Beginner Series" - it's a 25 minute workout that is great. There's also some early morning yoga on one of the cable channels (not sure which, but look it up) that you could try recording.

A quiet, not too bright room is perfect. Not too cold or hot is good as well. It's best to not have others around. I like to do yoga inside, but that's mostly because I need the DVD or an instructor to guide me.

    Good luck!!

  6. Great move! I started my yoga practice at age 17 in 1975 and it was one of the best moves of my life. Go for it!

You can learn a lot by reading on line about meditation and breathing exercises but I would advise getting outside help learning the positions because you want to learn them with proper alignment and not injure yourself.

The quiet place can be your own head. Shut out the world and listen to the sound of your own breathing. But your room (I use a hallway in my place) is fine too. Mix it up and see what works for you.
