Can Yoga Exercises Be A Substitute For Going To A Chiropractor?

I had a "chiropractic evaluation" a few years ago. I was told my spine had actually "twisted" somewhat. I had treatment for about 4 months, but found it to be too expensive. A lot of health plans don't cover what chiropractors do.

  1. i should say it has the preference, but there is also an other friendly method called Bowen

  2. yes i think so.

but for that really stubborn kink a chiro is good - if they can't fix it in four visits or less - it is a waste of money.

  3. Maybe not some Yoga styles, but anything that strengthens the back muscles will help. Going to a chiropractor is a good way of thinning down... your wallet.

  4. I believe so, but if you have a chronic problem, such as lower back pain, etc, please learn yoga under an experienced instructor. The instructor will be able to guide you to do your exercises correctly. I know yoga instructors who cured personal injuries through yoga- one was involved in a road accident and was told he will never walk again. He cured himself through yoga and ayurveda. Another 2 almost got slipped disk before they took up yoga. But I also know a friend who went to yoga, did the exercise incorrectly and ended up in hospital due to slipped disk. Done correctly and with the close supervision of an experienced instructor, yoga can help cure lots of chronic conditions.

  5. Yoga has its benefits if properly done.

  6. I don't bear the appropriate knowledge of your condition but many people use yoga as compliment to chiropractic manipulation. Personally, I have freed myself of many, many physical ailments through the practice of yoga.

  7. I have fibromyalgia so my back and spine are always hurting and my spine is never "in place" I have been told by docs and chiros that my spine resembles someone with scoliosis. I have only had an oppurtunity to try yoga twice now but I loved it and want to incorporate it into my everyday routine. My lower back felt better than it had in months, my hubby could even tell I stood taller. I would recommend trying it but remember that everyone is different and my personal experiences and yours are hard to compare. Good Luck!

  8. You should try extension and abdominal exercises to help strengthen the core muscles therefore less prone to back injuries and pain. Yoga will also help as it helps stretch and relax your muscles and also gives you a sense of well being.

A good chiropractor would have devised a treatment plan for you to get rid of pain and then teach you how to maintain it so that you can carry on later on without the pain or discomfort coming back.

Chiropractors now a days, use ice/heat, physical medicine as well as rehab techniques so that you can find some pain relief and it is cost effective.

*P.S. Don't listen to what some say about chiropractors because in reality many still do not know or understand what chiropractors really do. You know the saying, "people hate or fear what they don't understand." Chiropractors are legitimate doctors licensed and recognized in all 50 states and are recognized under Medicare as "primary care practitioners" That guy "Kalos" is a alternative medicine" BASHER and in his eyes, there is no alternative except drugs or surgery.

Recently Added: Sheesh, trying to educate ignorants like Kalo and Sam Harvey is like trying to make a rock float in water. Chiropractors are in no way trying to be medical doctors, but we are specialists in the areas of muscles, bones, and nerves. We refer out to medical doctors as needed, and they come back for physical hands on medicine. This is a drug dependent country and if people would take charge of their health, we might not be so fat, have diabetes, and hypertension, etc...

Chiropractic is in no way going to cure people of diseases, but just offer relief from pain...whats so wrong about that.

  9. Dontlisten to the extremist bigots that keep appearing on Alt Med web sites but don't ever quote a source that they don't agree with. They are deadly biased, and amazingly, their inaccuracies continue to be spouted on this sight. Think of them as a gnawing malignancy or space occupying lesions. No it can't ber substituted. Chiropractors , Osteopaths and shockingly, more PTs and MDs are using manipulation to correct fixations. 4 months? Wouldn't hurt to get a 2nd opinion.

  10. yoga from a qualified instructor can be very beneficial.

One of your posters gave you totally erroneous information regarding chiropractors. their training

2 years premed(same as MD or DO)

4 years professional school accredited by same federal agency that accredits medical and osteopathic schools

    national and state board examinations

    post graduate training required annually

the big difference is chiropractors do not believe that you get

headache because your body is not producing enough aspirin (same for other chemicals)
