Can I wash my danskin yoga mat? It would be great if anyone could answer this question for me. Would my Danskin yoga mat survive a cycle in the washing machine? Or is that just a really bad idea? Or should I just run some water and some sort of cleaner over it? I appreciate any advice. :)
How do I prevent slipping on my yoga mat when my palms get sweaty? When I do "downward facing dog" my palms get clamy & sometimes sweaty. It's hard to relax into the pose when my palms start to slip. I've tried using my partner's mat & get the same problem whereas he does not. I've asked yoga teachers & the only thing they seem to suggest is putting my sticky mat out in the sun or giving it another scrub. But, the mat is adequately sticky otherwise. I've tried sprinkling a little talc powder on my palms & that helps a little temporarily. I wonder if a mat made out of a different, perhaps natural material would work. I saw some on healthandyoga.com made from woven grass or cotton yarn. The yarn mat claims to absorb sweat & the grass looks like it might have better tracton when my palms get sweaty. It doesn't look like it would get slick when moist unlike the standard latex sticky mats. Does anyone have experience with other types of mats or have any advice for me? Any exp. w/ natural rubber mats? I've tried a product called "yoga paws" from Gaiam. It helped the first time that I used it and for once I felt rather firm and stable. It was great! But, after that it seems that I will just start to slip inside the gloves! Arrggg!!! It's not a matter of pushing too much as one user seemed to suggest. My palms are clamy as I start and I can't get very far into it at all before I start to slip. I'm not doing power yoga or anything intense that works up a sweat. It's just that I have palms that sweat easily I guess and naturally have more oils in them, I suppose.
How to clean a yoga mat? How to clean a 2nd hand yoga mat that I bought from someone else and make sure it's thoroughly clean?
should my flatmate store her yoga mat in the livingroom or her bedroom? i live with my sister and i am trying to keep the house organised and tidy. My sister thinks her yoga mat should be stored in the living room behind a chair. this freaks me out. I think it should be stored in her room because otherwise the living room will collect more clutter. My sister's argument is that she does yoga in the livingroom therefore the mat should be in that room. please what does everyone else think?
Do I need a Yoga mat to do the DVD? There are no places close to me that have yoga classes, so I am going to buy a yoga DVD. I was wondering, do I need to buy a yoga mat too? What things do I need, if any, to do a yoga DVD at home? Thanks!
How do I clean my yoga mat? I'd like to do it without putting it thru the washing machine because it takes so very very long to dry; and possibly without harsh chemicals. Any suggestions??
How to make a new yoga mat more sticky? I just got a new yoga mat. the brand name is tapas. My yoga teaher told me to wash it with shampoo to make it more sticky, less slippery. I did that, but it is still slippery. It is supposed to be a good mat, not cheap. Anyone have any advice on making it less slippery?
What health code prohibit return of used yoga mat? I see a lot of retailers selling yoga mat saying that used yoga mat cannot be returned once used because of health code regulations. I want to find out exactly where/what is this health code that they refer to or just something they put to not accept return.
I can not fit my new sticky mat in my yoga bag? I just bought a new sticky mat for my yoga practice and it no longer fits in my yoga bag (or to stuff it in is very time consuming and is never perfect). The bag is a traditional bag with a drawstring on top. Does anyone have any suggestions? I've also seen on line regular size bags and x/large bags. Is this critical? Thank you.
What is the best yoga mat available.? I just started doing aerobics and a fitness/workout DVD and I'm finding it way too hard on my knees and elbows to do it on the carpet...not to mention slipping like crazy. I hear so many people complain about the mats they buy and I'm wondering what is a really good mat and where can I get it? Thanks

Should I bring a yoga mat on cruise ship? I forgot to ask the cruise line if yoga mats are provided for yoga classes. If anyone has been on a cruise before, can you just tell me if they provided yoga mats? It's just an extra thing for me to carry otherwise.

Is my yoga mat supposed to be slippery when I sweat? I bought a yoga mat today and I'm fairly new to doing it. I went to a class tonight and it was really hot and I was sweating (but not insanely sweating) and my mat was so slippery that I couldn't even do downward dog after about 20minutes 'cause I kept slipping. Am I supposed to lock my legs in position to hold myself up? No one else seemed to be slipping. The mat that I bought also isn't just a yoga mat. It's a mat for aerobics and yoga, etc.
What is the best yoga mat? I live in a house with cold, hard tile floors and I'm looking for a comfortable and somewhat padded mat. All the ones I've seen seem very flimsy and non-protecting of sensitive bones. I don't need something that's highly portable. I'm a beginning yoga practicioner.
Which is the best eco yoga mat? I'm thinking of getting the yoga-mad tree-mat but can anyone recommend any others? This one looks the best but at 4mm thick I think it may be a bit too thin. I'll be using it for sit ups too because my spine digs into the floor too much so I think I may need something thicker. I'm in the UK by the way.
Where can I buy a bag for my yoga mat from? I have a mat that has no bag, I'd like a bag. I've checked various sport shops and big shops like Peter Jones, Selfridges etc. A lot of the bags I'm seeing are more expensive than the mat themselves! I'm just looking for a cheap one, like under 5 pounds even... Do you know of anywhere *specific* I can buy one from? Thanks.
How can I clean my yoga mat? The mat is a bit grubby from floor muck. I was going to soak it in hot water the bath for a few hours then leaving it to dry. But I am not sure if that would ruin the spongy foam? Anyone know? Thanks! :o)
